Traditional Pubs
The Last Drop is named such, as this was the place where condemned prisoners could have a last drink before going to the gallows, which stood in front of the pub. Now a popular tourist spot, with a cosy atmosphere, decent food and drink and a history to boot, the Last Drop can be a good stop in your visit to Edinburgh.
Crowds would gather to watch the public executions, carried out by hanging in the Grassmarket and the Last Drop enjoys this relationship. It has been repeatedly reported that the basement is haunted, and the spirit of a young medieval girl is said to roam the premises from time to time.
This is a popular pub in an old building with backpackers as there is a hostel nearby. Real Ales and a good selection of Malts are available. Freshly prepared food is available and prepared all day.
