Edinburgh Zoo is the largest attraction of its kind in Scotland. It is home to over 1000 animals from all sorts of varying habitats. The zoo provides visitors with the chance to get up close with many exciting creatures, including lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh my!
In December 2011 two very special visitors arrived, the Giant pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang, who have been loaned to Edinburgh Zoo until 2021 as part of an international breeding programme. Also in February-March viewing may be restricted due to the short breeding season these creatures undergo.
Other notable animals present include the penguins and the primates, both of whom have specially constructed enclosures; the former's pool has an underwater window for visitors close to the Panda enclosure.
Regular buses can be caught to the Zoo, including 12, X12, 26, 31 and those that run to the airport.
